The information found in this database makes up the preliminary outcome of the research project FAMEP - Photography, Modern Architecture and the “School of Oporto”: interpretations around Teófilo Rego Archive (PTDC/ATP-AQI/4805/2012) which is currently beeing undertaken by Arnaldo de Araújo Research Centre (FCT uRD 4041) of ESAP (Escola Superior Artística do Porto), in partnership with Casa da Imagem of Manuel Leão Foundation .

Through research of photographer’s Teófilo Rego (1914-1993) archival funds, FAMEP analyses the relationships established, in Oporto and northern Portugal, between photography and Modern architecture, in the period going from 1940 to 1970.

These archives encompass around 600.000 photographic records and a part of it include works by such architects as José Marques da Silva, João Andresen, Januário Godinho, Arnaldo Araújo, Luís Pádua Ramos, José Carlos Loureiro, Alfredo Viana de Lima, Agostinho Ricca or Rogério de Azevedo, among others.

The photographs now made available, make up a set of around 3600 images recovered from, and contextualised with complementary information, allowing a vaster audience new readings and interpretations.

In due time, as new themes emerge from Teófilo Rego's Archive, this database will be regularly updated with more photographic records.
